Relais and Chȃteaux – The Gift of Belonging

Hastings House became a member of Relais and Chȃteaux in 1985, joining an association of the world’s finest hoteliers, chefs, and restauranteurs. We are pleased to uphold the values and commitment to excellence that are the hallmark of Relais and Chȃteaux hospitality.

Independently owned and operated luxury resorts, Relais and Chȃteaux hotels are known for their warm and personalized welcome, authentic cuisine, and celebration of the sense of place. We offer an experience in the art of living well.

Here’s a look at how the art of living well is demonstrated through a few of our most central commitments.

Authenticity

Commitment 1 – We offer a cuisine that is representative of local traditions and environments and reflects their global diversity.

Our Executive Chef Marcel Kauer has been with Hastings House Manor Dining since 1992. Swiss trained, he designs and creates delightful gourmet cuisine with a focus on local fish, poultry and lamb, and fresh produce, herbs and edible flowers from the Hastings House gardens. An evening or two in Manor Dining is often the highlight of a stay at Hastings House. Breakfasts are extraordinary, featuring pasture-raised eggs and farm-fresh produce, and are a treat for the eye as well as the palate.

Local Anchorage

Commitment 2 – We receive guests in a way that celebrates our location, landscape, and décor.

A big part of the charm of staying at Hastings House is the art. Guests are greeted by the eleven wooden figures that stand in the upper pasture––the Council of Elders by Michael Dennis––and the stunning oil silkscreen of Emily Carr’s Church at Yuquot Village that hangs in the Reception. In addition, each suite displays original artworks and antique botanical prints by local artists, such as Robert Bateman and Jill Louise Campbell, whose paintings perfectly depict the fauna and flora of the Gulf Islands. Each suite is also tastefully decorated with traditional country fabrics to suit the character of the hotel’s distinctive architecture.

Family Spirit

Commitment 3 – We welcome guests as friends and share our passion for living well.

A boutique hotel, Hastings House offers guests a high level of service from staff members, whether at reception, in Manor Dining or with our gardens and grounds team. Guests are welcomed by the front desk and bell team and are personally guided to their suites. A full made-to-order breakfast is included each morning so that guests start the day nourished and in the conviviality of Manor Dining. We pride ourselves in creating an elegant but warm atmosphere, and you may even share genial moments with the proprietors or the maître de maison.

Regular guests tell us that returning to Hastings House each year is a family tradition and gives them a sense of belonging! And so, rather than welcome, at Hastings House it is often welcome back!
