Shopping and Services on Salt Spring Island, B.C.

A large number of artists, entertainers, and crafts people have made their homes on the island.  Subsequently, Salt Spring’s many galleries, together with numerous craft fairs and concerts, have given the island an international reputation as an artist’s colony.

A map showing locations of various studios participating in studio tours is available at our Reception office. Copies are also available from the Tourist Information Center in Ganges. Some have listed opening hours; others have signs indicating whether they are open or closed. Some are open only by appointment. It is best to call ahead if you are interested in a particular artist. Our staff will be happy to help you set up a tour, and arrange a picnic lunch for you to enjoy on one or more of your stops.

A popular feature of Salt Spring are the open-air markets held every Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the Farmer’s Market, every Tuesday. Both take place in Centennial Park, in the heart of Ganges. Numerous stores, galleries, and shops around the park make for a memorable visit and are fun to browse for unique gifts. Live music and people-watching can provide great entertainment.
